What is Amazon Prime Student?

Includes a 6-month free trial with almost all Prime benefits. Some, like unlimited Prime Music reading and unlimited streaming, may be limited during this trial period.
However, when the six months are up, you get all the benefits of a full Prime membership, except you can't share the benefits with another account.
Best of all, you get these Prime benefits at a discount: Amazon Prime Student members get 50% off the cost of a full Prime membership. Normally $139/£79 per year, this brings the annual subscription price to $69/£39, making the Amazon Prime Student cost fairly affordable.
This half-price Amazon Prime student cost lasts for four years or until you graduate, whichever comes first.
At this point, subscriptions auto-renew at the full Amazon Prime price of $139/£79 per year. Amazon will email you a few weeks before the effective date so you know when you will be billed and have the opportunity to cancel if you do not wish to proceed.

Who can join Amazon Prime Student in the US?
To join Amazon Prime Student in the US, you must meet a few requirements.
First, you must have an Amazon account. If you don't have it, you can create one.Here(opens in new tab).
Second, you must be actively enrolled in at least one course at a college or university. Your school must be in one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, or Puerto Rico.
You will also need a valid .edu email address. This doesn't have to be the email address associated with your Amazon account, but it's used to verify that you're a student, so you'll need to log into that account.
Finally, and this is crucial, while you don't necessarily need to show you're enrolled in college when applying for Prime Student, you should be able to show it if Amazon asks you.
If you fail to provide documentation, Amazon may require you to repay benefits received while your Prime Student account was in effect. In other words, you have to pay Amazon for all those profits, which nobody wants to do.
Who can join Amazon Prime Student in the UK?
Amazon UK has similar requirements for enrolling in the Amazon Prime Student program, with a few key differences.
Just like in the US, you need to set up an Amazon.co.uk account. You must also be 18 years or older.
Enrollment at a university geographically located in the United Kingdom or the Republic of Ireland is compulsory. Again, while you are not required to show you are currently enrolled at the school at the time of application, you can do so if Amazon requires it.

How do I join Amazon Prime Student or Amazon Prime Student (UK)?
To join Amazon Prime Student in the US, just go toregistration page(opens in new tab).
Select the "Start your 6-month trial" button. On the next page, enter your school email address and the year you would like to graduate. Amazon uses this to determine when your Amazon Prime student membership ends.
A confirmation email will be sent to your .edu account and from there you can complete the registration process.
In the UK it isAmazon Prime student registration page(opens in new tab)it's a bit more complicated. You will need to provide your school email address and the month and year you graduated, as well as your grade, field of study, and payment information.
Upon completion, you will need to verify your academic email address. Your six-month free trial begins as soon as you activate this option.
Current Amazon Prime members can also upgrade to Amazon Prime Student. If you're interested in joining Prime Student, go toregistration page(opens in new tab).
First you have to verify yourself as a student. In this case you will be refunded the difference between the regular rate of $139/£79 and the student rate of $69/£39. You don't need to cancel your current Prime membership to join Prime Student.
What if I don't have an .edu or .ac.uk email address?
If you don't have an .edu, .ac.uk, or .edu.ie email address, don't worry. There is still a way to apply for Prime Student without one.
To apply for Prime Student in the US without an .edu email, you must provide evidence that you are currently enrolled at an eligible university in one of the 50 states or in Washington, D.C. are enrolled.
To do this, you must send documents toamazon-student-verification@amazon.com(opens in new tab). Before doing this, however, make sure that all of your Amazon account payment information is up to date.
Please attach a scan, photo or screenshot of one of the following documents to the email. Needless to say, this should be yours and not someone else's (sorry roommates):
- Student ID card with the current term or an expiry date. A matriculation number is not sufficient
- Certificate or class list for the current semester with your name and the name of your school
- Enrollment account for the current semester with your name and the name of your school
- Official notification of admission for the next semester, which must contain a registration date
A similar bypass is available in the UK and Republic of Ireland for those who do not have an .ac.uk or .edu.ie email address. You must prove that you are at least 18 years old and enrolled in at least one course at a college or university in the UK.

- Valid NUS Extra or NUS Apprentice Extra card with name, school and card expiry date
- Proof of student status on official school letterhead. You must provide your name and address, course details, start date, and expected completion or completion date
- Course invoice for the current semester, which must include your school name, course details, start date and address
- Statement for the current period with your name and the name of your school
- Official acceptance letter for the upcoming semester, printed on official school letterhead. You must provide your name, address, course details, date of application, and expected date of graduation or completion
If Amazon determines that you are eligible to join Prime Student or Amazon Prime Student, you will receive an email within 3-5 business days with a link to complete the registration process.
It is important that you apply within 14 days of receiving this follow-up email. Otherwise, you will need to restart the Prime Student membership application process.
While additional work is required, it's still possible to get the benefits of Amazon Prime Student without an .edu or .ac.uk email address.

Now that you know how to enroll in Amazon Prime Student, the big question is: what can you gain from it?
